A turnbuckle can be used to hold and tighten a steel wire so that the wire can only move in one direction. In addition, they can be used to fasten a mast in a stay to stabilize the mast and thereby the boat.
Unscrew the fork and terminal and tighten them with a nut. Then mount it in the desired location. Finally, tighten the turnbuckle, and thus the wire, by inserting a thin screwdriver or similar through the small hole in the middle and twisting until the wire is fully tensioned.
