A turnbuckle is a type of fastener used to tension and adjust shrouds, stays, or other wires. On a boat, primarily for stabilizing the mast. The turnbuckle consists of two end fittings or forks, attached to a right-hand threaded screw and a left-hand threaded screw. Between the ends sits a "body" that acts as a long nut. By rotating the body, the wire can be tensioned without twisting it.
