A terminal is used to secure the end of a steel wire rope so that the wire can only move in one direction. It can be used functionally, for example, to tension a structure, or architecturally for display purposes. Additionally, they can be used to tension a mast in what is called a stay, to stabilise the mast and thereby the boat.
Terminals are typically roll-swaged around the steel wire rope, meaning the terminal is crimped around the steel wire rope using a special tool to secure it to an anchoring point.
With roll-swaged terminals, you don't need to use a special tool. Instead, unscrew the terminal, insert the wire, and screw it back together to secure the steel wire rope.
Danish company Blue Wave manufactures its products from a single block of stainless steel, meaning there are no welds, and thus their products can withstand extra loads.
