The outrigger pole keeps the tarpaulin clear of the hull, preventing chafing on the boat and providing good ventilation. The frame is adjustable in two directions: height and the outrigger pole's distance from the hull. The number of legs is chosen to match the number of stanchions the boat is equipped with. A stern arch (which holds the tarpaulin out from the stern) is available as an accessory.
