A terminal is used to secure the end of a steel wire rope so that the rope can only move in one direction. It can be used, for example, functionally to brace a structure, or architecturally for exhibition purposes. In addition, they can be used to brace a mast in a stay to stabilize the mast and thereby the boat.
Terminals are usually swaged onto the steel wire rope, meaning the terminal is crimped around the steel wire rope using a special tool to secure it to an anchor point.
With roll-free terminals, no special tool is needed. Instead, unscrew the terminal, insert the wire, and screw it back together to secure the steel wire rope.
