Aluminum anode that can replace traditional zinc anodes. Aluminum anodes have certain advantages over traditional zinc anodes. The alloy from which the aluminum anode is made has a greater negative charge than zinc, as well as a longer lifespan, which means that the anode is more active and over a longer period of time.
In total, an aluminum anode produces approximately 70% more amp/hour during its lifetime than a corresponding traditional zinc anode. As a side benefit, you halve the weight and save some money on the price.
NOTE! There must be no physical contact between aluminum and zinc anodes because the aluminum anode protects the zinc anode. Therefore, all anodes on, for example, sterndrives and outboard motors must be either aluminum or zinc. Unlike zinc anodes, which can only be used in saltwater, aluminum can be used in both saltwater and brackish water.
Many manufacturers use aluminum anodes as standard today on their new engines and boats, such as Mercruiser, Mercury, Yanmar, Selva, Torqeedo, Princess, and Sunseeker.
